Hilary Duff feels ‘so lucky’ to have such a long career in Hollywood
Hilary Duff says she’s “so lucky” and “can’t believe” how long she’s been acting, from Disney Channel’s “Lizzie McGuire” to “How I Met Your Father.”
Hilary Duff is grown now.
The “Lizzie McGuire” actress and singer has released her new single “Mature,” marking a return to music a decade after her last album.
A bubbly, ’80s-tinged pop record, “Mature” sees Duff sings about her younger self dating someone older, before leaving such naivety behind. “She looks like shе could be your daughter / Like me before I got smarter,” she sings. “When I was flattered to hear you say / ‘You’re so mature for your age, babe.'”
The track, a piece of “autofiction” according to a release, was co-written by Duff, 38, her husband, Grammy-winning producer and songwriter Matthew Koma, and singer-songwriter Madison Love.
“‘Mature’ is a little conversation that my present self is having with my younger self,” Duff said in the release. “The two of us are reflecting on a past experience and sending love to each other. It’s a chuckle, a wink, and a sense of being grateful that we are sure footed in where we landed.”
Duff was romantically linked to Good Charlotte rocker Joel Madden when she was 16 and he was 25. Madden went on to marry Nicole Richie, with Duff later marrying Koma in 2019 after her split from her ex-husband, hockey player Mike Comrie.
“It’s definitely about a brief experience that I had a long, long time ago,” Duff told Vogue about the song. “It was extremely therapeutic to write about things that a normal conversation doesn’t really give you the opportunity to.”

Duff released the music video the same day.
In it, Duff gets ready in front of a Hollywood vanity mirror before heading on stage, in a live performance for herself, before exiting the theater.
The return to music comes 10 years after her 2015 album “Breathe In. Breathe Out.” Her comeback also follows 2007’s “Dignity,” 2005’s “Most Wanted,” 2004’s “Hilary Duff” and 2003’s “Metamorphosis.”
Hilary Duff docuseries in the works
Duff’s return to music will be supplemented by an unnamed docuseries from “Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour” director Sam Wrench. A release date and platform for the series have yet to be announced.
