Charmed costars Holly Marie Combs and Brian Krause aren’t concerned over fans believing they’ve taken their romance offscreen.
“I think we freak people out sometimes,” Combs, 52, said on Australia’s The Morning Show on Wednesday, June 24. “We were having breakfast in the hotel the other day, and I was like, ‘Do you think people think we just do this randomly?’”
Krause, 57, added, “Some people think we’re an item, a thing.”
Combs said she and Krause “don’t want to burst the bubble,” so they “just go with it.”
Charmed aired on The WB for eight seasons from 1998 to 2006. The fantasy drama followed sisters Piper (Combs), Prue (Shannen Doherty) and Phoebe Halliwell (Alyssa Milano), also known as The Charmed Ones, the most powerful good witches of all time, who used their powers to protect the innocent from evil. Krause played the sisters’ guardian angel, Leo, who later became romantically involved with Piper.
While Leo and Piper eventually got married and had children together, Combs and Krause were always strictly platonic. The pair remained close friends after Charmed ended, often appearing at events together and cohosting the rewatch podcast “The House of Halliwell” alongside former costar Drew Fuller, who played their onscreen son Chris.
A few years before Charmed premiered, Krause tied the knot with Beth Bruce in 1996. The pair welcomed son Jamen, 30, before their divorce in 2001. He later dated Milano, 53, in real life during season 3 of Charmed.
Combs, meanwhile, has been married three times. She first tied the knot with Bryan Smith in 1993, although the pair later called it quits in 1997. The Pretty Little Liars alum was then married to David W. Donoho from 2004 to 2011. The exes share kids Finley, 22, Riley, 19, and Kelley, 17.
In 2019, Combs married restaurateur Mike Ryan after three years of dating. Both Krause and Fuller, 46, attended the Carmel, California, nuptials.
“Our connection was so immediate,” Combs said of Ryan. “Just when I stopped looking for the perfect person, the perfect person showed up.”
In 2024, the Charmed cast faced tragedy when costar Doherty died at age 53 following a battle with breast cancer. Combs, Krause and Fuller paid tribute to the late actress on their podcast at the time.
“I’ve had a little bit of time to reflect on that and how everything worked out,” Combs shared, becoming emotional. “I think she did as much as she could in the time that she had, but we did think we had more time. That’s the really sad part. We had big, big plans for this year. She didn’t think she was going anywhere anytime soon.”
Combs continued, “It sounds terribly cliché … until it happens to you, you always think you have more time. Life changes on a dime.”
