THE RUNDOWN

  • Beyoncé is now a billionaire, Forbes reported on December 29.
  • The milestone comes after years of record-setting achievements in music and successful business ventures.
  • She joins four other music artists who bear the billionaire title: her husband Jay-Z, Rihanna, Taylor Swift, and Bruce Springsteen.

Beyoncé has reached billionaire status. On Monday, Forbes reported that the musician, producer, and entrepreneur crossed the $1 billion mark following a run of tours, releases, and business ventures that helped her reach the milestone.

The achievement comes after years of high-performing and record-setting live performances. Her 2023 Renaissance World Tour grossed close to $600 million, placing it among the highest-earning tours of all time. That momentum continued with Cowboy Carter, her 2024 country-inspired album, and its subsequent tour this year, which grossed more than $400 million in ticket sales, with another $50 million generated from merchandise sold at the shows, according to Forbes and Pollstar.

Central to Beyoncé’s financial success is Parkwood Entertainment, the company she founded in 2010. Parkwood oversees nearly every aspect of her career, from music and touring to film and brand partnerships. By financing and producing her own projects, Beyoncé retains ownership of her catalog and secures a larger share of profits, according to Forbes.

In a 2013 video promoting her self-titled album, Beyoncé, she explained that she wanted to follow the example of artists who built independent empires rather than relying on outside management. “When I decided to manage myself, it was important that I didn’t go to some big management company,” she said. “I felt like I wanted to follow the footsteps of Madonna and be a powerhouse and have my own empire and show other women when you get to this point in your career, you don’t have to go sign with someone else and share your money and your success—you do it yourself.”

She added, “So I found a team of underdogs, a team of women, a team of people that no one believed in, and we worked together.”

While Beyoncé has diversified into consumer brands, including hair-care line Cécred and whiskey label SirDavis, Forbes estimates that the majority of her wealth still comes from music, particularly touring and ownership of her master recordings. In recent years, she has also embraced direct-to-consumer distribution, releasing concert films tied to her tours and negotiating major streaming and broadcast deals, including a reported eight-figure agreement connected to her Christmas Day 2024 NFL halftime performance that streamed on Netflix.

Beyoncé now joins a short list of five billionaire musicians, which includes her husband, Jay-Z, as well as Rihanna, Taylor Swift, and Bruce Springsteen. In her 2019 ELLE cover story, Beyoncé spoke candidly about the importance of autonomy and self-investment. “We all have the confidence in us to take chances and bet on ourselves,” she said at the time.

Still, the singer has shared that financial success isn’t her only measure of achievement. “One thing I’ve worked extremely hard on is making sure my kids can have as much normalcy and privacy as possible, ensuring my personal life isn’t turned into a brand,” she told GQ last year. “It’s very easy for celebrities to turn our lives into performance art. I have made an extreme effort to stay true to my boundaries and protect myself and my family. No amount of money is worth my peace.”
