Lady Gaga will be making an appearance in The Devil Wears Prada 2
While promoting the new movie, Meryl Streep revealed she personally asked the singer to be in the film
In the movie, Gaga plays a pop star who gives a performance in Milan
Meryl Streep and The Devil Wears Prada 2 director David Frankel recalled how they got Lady Gaga to appear in the film.
During an appearance on Heart Breakfast shared to Instagram by the U.K. morning show on Wednesday, April 29, Streep, 76, said she personally called the singer, 40, to ask her to be in the film. “That was me. Thank you. You’re welcome,” she told Emily Blunt, who was shocked to hear how it happened. “I called her from Islington because I was out to dinner with Tracy. And I thought, I might as well try her.”
“I just said, ‘Would you do this? Because it’s going to be really good. And she said, ‘Yeah!’ ” Streep said while snapping her fingers. “Just like that. She’s on her world tour, which lasted a year, playing to 75,000 people in a stadium and just flew off and did us.”

Blunt, 43, noted that she thinks highly of Gaga, especially after hearing about her performance on her MAYHEM Ball tour. “I think she’s a creative storm,” the actress said.
Frankel also talked about Gaga’s appearance in the movie. He confirmed that she’ll be playing a pop star during an interview with Back Row. “We wrote a pop star into the sequence,” he said in a clip from the upcoming episode shared by the podcast on Tuesday. “They’re doing this whole show in Milan, and there was this one line in the script where a pop star does a performance.”

“So when we went to talk to the studio about who should this pop star should be and they said, ‘You don’t really need anybody. Your movies are so interesting without…, ‘ ” the director recalled. “And I said, ‘No, no, no, we need a pop star.’ And they said, ‘Well, we only think one person is worth tapping in the movie and it’s Gaga.'”
“And as it happened, almost like as in the movie, Meryl had just met Gaga at the SNL50 show. And they had bonded and said, We should do something together,” he added.
It was at that point that Frankel called Streep (with Disney’s permission) and asked her to reach out to Gaga to see if she would be interested in doing the movie. “That’s how the ball got rolling,” he said. “And Gaga was super excited and wrote songs for us and and the timing was kind of perfect, because we were shooting in Milan the week that she was performing in Milan.”
