The new sneakers are inspired by midwestern sunsets and Kansas City’s famous fountains.
The Kansas City Royals and MLB are extending my favorite 2026 City Connect collection to include a custom pair of Nike Air Max 1s. The team wears the white and purple uniform every Friday at home, while the jerseys launched earlier this year, the shoes are available now.
The design for the Royals Nike Air Max 1 is minimalistic, which is probably why I love it. It’s got the classic Nike Air Max 1 look without all the craziness of the Reds’ 50 shades of red or the multicolored Padres rendition. The pops of blue and purple really tie the shoes to the jersey without being overwhelming.
The Royals Nike Air Max 1s officially launched on Tuesday, June 9 at 10 a.m. ET at Fanatics and DICK’S Sporting Goods, but you’ll want to act fast, every release this season has sold out within hours. If you happen to miss your chance at Fanatics, check StockX as well, resell prices haven’t been too bad.

If we’re talking City Connect favorites, the San Diego Padres nailed the Hispanic culture aspect. If we’re talking working in baseball history, it’s Baltimore. But the Royals 2026 City Connect jersey is my favorite solely based on how they look.
Anne Rogers from MLB.com described them as “featuring a fuchsia gradient into blue, the uniform’s color treatment is a nod to the tones of a Midwestern summer sunset and the blue of water flowing through Kansas City’s more than 200 fountains.”
The design also features the 1969 “R” logo with a crown on top which is a nod to previous versions of the Royals logo. The team wears these jerseys for every Friday home game at Kauffman Stadium.
