How to use the new Threads Live Chat features

This April Threads launched Live Chats, which according to Meta “lets you participate in public group chats during the biggest cultural events. It’s a new way to build community with others around shared interests like an album drop or a big game as it unfolds.” 

Now the feature is getting some additional updates, including expanded access. All Community Champions across all communities are now eligible to create a Live Chat. Communities on Threads are dedicated spaces where users can connect and discuss specific passions – and Community Champion badges are awarded to active contributors who keep conversations going.

• Co-hosts: Hosts can now invite up to three co-hosts into their Live Chat – making it easier to manage conversations and bring in other voices. Meta suggests you should think of it as the equivalent of having a guest on your show or another voice to moderate the conversation.
• Share chat messages to feed: Standout moments from a Live Chat can now be shared directly to a user’s Threads feed – helping conversations reach a broader audience.
• Translations: Live Chats now support translations, making conversations more accessible to global communities.
• Coming soon: Desktop support and pinned messages are in the works — two of the most heavily requested features, says Meta.
• Better host tools: Hosts can now delete messages for everyone, and Meta is testing ways to make host/co-host messages more visually prominent so they stand out in the flow.

How to best use Threads communities

For established artists. Consider co-hosting live chats around a new release, identifying community champions and rewarding them, or sharing snippets of upcoming music, or a chat around one of their passions – whether it’s F1, football or discussing a new series they’ve been binging.

For independent and developing artists. Many musicians use communities to get feedback from other artists, or scout for producers and collaborators.
