Fey is one of the most successful graduates of the SNL academy in the 51-year history of the show, going on to create Emmy-winning series like 30 Rock and Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, star in acclaimed films like Mean Girls and Sisters, and even produce series like The Four Seasons and The Fall and Rise of Reggie Dinkins.
But why choose a Yankee to do a Brit’s job? Surprise guest Nicola Coughlan asked Fey that frank question during her monologue on Saturday’s premiere episode.
“Shouldn’t it be, like, a British icon like David Beckham? Or Judi Dench? Or, like, Shrek?” asked the Bridgerton actress, who originally hails from Ireland. Fey responded, “How do I put this politely? None of you f—ers would do it. Does that make sense?”
The SNL UK cast is comprised of Hammed Animashaun, Ayoade Bamgboye, Larry Dean, Celeste Dring, George Fouracres, Ania Magliano, Annabel Marlow, Al Nash, Jack Shep, Emma Sidi, and Paddy Young.
