In the Sunday finale, Carrie Coon’s Bertha Russell, the show’s ambitious, socially ascendant matriarch emerged with nearly everything she fought for: her daughter’s marriage secure and a glittering Newport, Connecticut, ball that salvaged her husband’s business reputation.
But George Russell (Morgan Spector) remained unmoved. In the episode’s final moments, George, still recovering from a gunshot wound, told Bertha he may never forgive her for marrying their daughter off for status and for matching his ruthlessness a trait he appeared unwilling to accept in his wife.
