The Office fans, are you ready? A new series called The Paper, set in the same world as The Office, premieres this week on Peacock. The spinoff series sees the old Office documentary crew working on a new project. The subject? The newsroom of a failing local newspaper, conveniently owned by a large paper company… The Paper stars Domhnall Gleeson, Sabrina Impacciatore, Chelsea Frei, Melvin Gregg, Gbemisola Ikumelo, Alex Edelman and Ramona Young. The Paper plot
The new Office spinoff series follows Ned Sampson (Domhnall Gleeson), a toilet paper salesman working for paper-conglomerate Enervate, who gets reassigned to lead the company’s failing small-market newspaper, despite his lack of experience.
How does The Paper tie into The Office?
The Paper exists in the same universe as The Office, where, years after the premiere of the original series, the same documentary crew picks a new workplace as its subject: The newsroom of the Toledo Truth Teller.
And who happens to work in that newsroom? The Office’s Oscar Martinez (played by Oscar Núñez). The doc crew and Oscar seem to be the only characters reappearing in The Paper (for now), but behind the scenes, the U.S. Office creator Greg Daniels is responsible for this series too, along with Michael Koman and co-executive producers Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant from the U.K. Office team.
