With Marvel’s Doomsday and Secret Wars already concocting variant and multiverse shenanigans, and Jackman’s Wolverine already drawing love from fans after the success of Deadpool & Wolverine, it’s unnatural not to think, Wolverine’s next pit stop would be any of those big-budget Avengers outings. But is it happening? Recently, Jackman re-addressed the topic.
“Maybe. I’m never saying ‘never’ ever again,” said Jackman during a sit-down on The Graham Norton Show. “I did mean it until the day I changed my mind. I did mean it for quite a few years. I have done ten films now, so I think they have enough for an AI version of me!”
You would think that after delivering something worth a billion dollars in a franchise, you would already know the fate of the character – assuming Wolverine would definitely be lurking somewhere among the juggernauts or maybe even leading one. But this is Hugh Jackman we are talking about; it doesn’t come that easily.
However, there have been some insider updates that Jackman may continue portraying Wolverine in the Marvel Cinematic Universe beyond Avengers: Secret Wars. That means he could have plans to return in the upcoming Avengers titles. But this really has to be taken with a grain of salt.
In the past, the actor has addressed the same question about his return. Well, as you might expect, he dodged it quite slyly, almost convincing fans he is playing coy. He said:
“I really can’t say much, except when you say ‘appear’, [it ‘s] more like dominate and destroy every other character—I’m kidding. I really have nothing to add, and if I did, I would find a really cool way to not say it, but I actually have nothing to add.”
Avengers: Doomsday is scheduled for December 18, 2026, meanwhile Avengers: Secret Wars will hit theaters on December 17, 2027.
