Hugh Jackman and Kate Hudson are telling a story about love, music and Neil Diamond this holiday season.
On Tuesday, Sept. 9, Focus Features released the trailer for Song Sung Blue, which stars Jackman, 56, and Hudson, 46, as real-life Milwaukee-area couple Mike and Claire Sardina, who formed the band Lightning & Thunder in tribute to “Sweet Caroline” singer Diamond, now 84.
The movie meets Jackman and Hudson’s characters as they express a desire for something more out of their lives. Hudson’s Claire wishes for a life beyond working as a hair dresser, while Jackman’s Mike desires for “something big, something new.”
The trailer follows the pair’s relationship as it develops and their performances begin, with snippets at Jackman and Hudson performing Diamond’s 1966 song “Cherry, Cherry” and “Sweet Caroline.”

Written and directed by Craig Brewer (Hustle & Flow), Song Sung Blue is based on the 2008 documentary of the same name by Greg Kohs. Kohs also serves as an executive producer on the new film, alongside Erika Hampson.
“Based on a true story, two down-on-their-luck musicians form a joyous Neil Diamond tribute band, proving it’s never too late to find love and follow your dreams,” reads a synopsis for the film.
Song Sung Blue also stars Michael Imperioli, Ella Anderson and musician King Princess in her big screen debut, as well as Mustafa Shakir, Hudson Hensley, Fisher Stevens and Jim Belushi.
Focus Features first announced that Hudson and Jackman would costar in Song Sung Blue in October 2024.

By December, Hudson shared on Instagram that she and Jackman were finishing filming and recording songs for the movie.
“A little scroll of my final days filming and playing before holiday crunch time. What a work hubby @thehughjackman,” she wrote in the caption.
“Can’t wait to share more then just our matching green eye balls. More to come,” Hudson added.
Song Sung Blue is in theaters Dec. 25.
