When preparing for a highly photographed event like the Met Gala, most celebrities’ beauty routines start long before their glam teams arrive. For Kris Jenner, Blake Lively, Gigi Hadid, Kylie Jenner, and many others, sleeping on a silk pillowcase is the first step. Obviously, I had to try one.
When asked about the best silk pillowcase, an impressively long list of celebrities and tastemakers reply that Slip is their favorite, so I called in the brand’s signature style, the Queen Zippered Pillowcase. The first thing I noticed was the impressively long list of colorways and pattern options. Though silk pillowcases have become popular over the past few years for their ostensible beauty benefits, as an editor at an interior design magazine, I’ve found them lacking in style; not the case with Slip. I immediately fell in love with the new ‘Lodge’ pattern, which has pretty blue and green stripes. As a New Englander, I couldn’t help but adore its subtly preppy vibe.

When I took the silk pillowcase out of the plastic, I found the surface to be incredibly silky and smooth, gliding effortlessly over my skin without snagging. Given that Slipsilk is 100% pure mulberry silk with the highest grade long fibers and a thickness of 22 momme, it’s no surprise.

If you are looking for another high-brow pick, these beautiful pillowcases from Branche are a great option. The pink shade would be gorgeous nestled among white cotton bedding.
My biggest hang-up in avoiding silk pillowcases thus far has been my worry about how to wash them, assuming that caring for silk bed linen would be a massive pain. However, blessedly, Slip silk pillowcases are machine washable. I ran mine through on a cold cycle with like-colored items, then hung them to dry. They retained all of their original lustre and shape. The natural fibers helped the silk cases dry quickly, so I was able to put them on my bed that same evening.

Beauty experts and celebrities wax poetic about the benefits of silk pillowcases, and Slip products in particular; they visibly improve fine lines, skin hydration, texture, and smoothness, and protect hair. Though I called in the cases in pursuit of these results, the first thing that struck me was just how stylish my new cases looked. Sleep pillows are traditionally tucked away behind more decorative Euros, but my new Lodge pieces were pretty enough I wanted them on display. They brought in the green of my vintage lamp, and played well with the metallic surface of my artwork from Kate Jenkins. I also loved the contrast with my burgundy flameless candles from Addison Ross.

Though it’s only been a week, the most significant benefits I’ve noticed from these top-rated bed sheets is the smoothness of my hair. On Thursday, I fell asleep with wet hair, which is generally a nightmare for me as a woman with big, thick, wavy locks, but I was pleasantly surprised when I woke up on Friday to a smooth head. My partner, who has naturally curly hair has also reported a reduction in frizz, and better preservation of her curls from the night before. My skin looks glowy and I have definitely noticed an absence of sleep lines when I wake up in the morning; however, I am staying tuned to see if I observe fewer fine lines, which I think will take more time to sink in.

Whether or not you have a big, camera-heavy evening approaching, I would recommend Slip’s silk pillowcases purely for their aesthetic benefits. Though the improvement to my hair has been nice, the most significant change I’ve observed is total joy when I look at my bed. Even positioned behind the larger decorative pillows, the striped corner peeking out looks so striking. I immediately see why style-focused celebs like Kris, Blake, and Gigi approve.
