“Oh, it’s a big problem,” Keaton told Elle in 2015. “It’s a real big regret of mine that I was too interested in the fantasy, too interested in everything that I couldn’t do with men.”

The Annie Hall star revealed that her deep admiration for talented, complex people may have made long-term commitment difficult. “I think I was really afraid of men and also very attracted to extremely talented people that were dazzling,” she explained. “I don’t think that that makes for a good marriage with a person like me, someone who just didn’t adjust well.”

Over the years, Keaton found herself in several high-profile romances with A-listers Al Pacino Warren Beatty and Woody Allen, however she never made anything official.

“I think, like, you have to really think about a long-term marriage,” she told Elle. “Like, what is love? What is love between a man and a woman? Hey, it’s going to be up and down, and you’ve gotta really adjust to things. You’ve got to still be charmed by them, and also still like the person, you know?”

News of Keaton’s death at age 79 broke on Saturday. October 11. She leaves behind two children, Dexter, 29, and Duke, 25.
