She was 101.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Morgan died of natural causes in her sleep on Monday night. She was in hospice care in Naples, Florida. The site noted that she starred in Paris nightclubs and appeared on “just about every TV variety show of her era” while also having a hit record with “Fascination.”
Morgan recorded 40 albums during her career, the first coming in 1956 and the last coming in 2009. Impressively, The Hollywood Reporter said, Morgan sang in five different languages, a fact that the outlet said made her “a true international star.”
She was a regular on “The Ed Sullivan Show,” and a recurring guest on the “Tonight Show” with Johnny Carson. She also had three of her own television specials, “The Jane Morgan Hour,” “Voice of Firestone: An Evening in Paris,” and the “The Jane Morgan Show.”
Morgan was previously married to famed film director Jerry Weintraub, who died in 2015.
While she still released albums long after, Morgan retired in 1973 to take care of her family with Weintraub.
She was a native of Newton, Massachusetts, and a graduate of Seabreeze High School in Daytona Beach. From there, she went on to Juilliard in New York to study opera and she began performing in nightclubs to help pay tuition. She left school, however, to invited by Bernard Hilda to go with him to Paris and perform.
The Hollywood Reporter said that Morgan quickly learned French and became “a sensation” performing there.
Among the legendary musicians she worked with were Elvis Presley, Bob Dylan, Frank Sinatra, Neil Diamond, John Denver and Led Zeppelin.
She received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2011.
