It’s the Fourth of July. Independence Day. America’s birthday. The country turns 250, if you assert that the birth of the nation happened specifically on July 4, 1776—which a lot of people do. It’s as good a day as any, I suppose, though those days and months and years leading up to that point are a part of the American identity, too.
Like many of you, I’ve been watching a lot of the World Cup, and like many of you, I’ve also followed some of the delightful stories of Americans welcoming the varying other teams and supporters into their communities with open arms. It reminds me of the best of this country, and it gives me hope that we can keep continually making our communities better, more prosperous, and more welcoming.
We’re throwing it back to an old school format this morning: that of ye olde off topic thread. Let’s go.
