There is no shortage of startups hoping to help artists connect with their keenest fans. The latest to join the throng is Indigo, whose co-founders include Demi Weitz, whose Quarantunes initiative raised nearly $40m during the pandemic.
What is Indigo? A service to help artists “share unreleased music, voice memos, behind-the-scenes content, and exclusive experiences”, with fans able to pay to unlock access, as well as through micro-transactions and gifting.
It’s not live yet: the beta launch is planned for later in the summer. However, Indigo has announced its first partnership with an artist: IDK, the rapper, producer and filmmaker.
He’ll be working with the company on a weekend of events later this month around the Juneteenth and Fête de la Musique celebrations, with Indigo handling fan signups for the event. IDK will be running his own fan community on the platform.
As with other startups in this sector, Indigo’s initial task will be to sign up artists with sizeable fanbases that they can bring to its platform, while in the longer term, securing funding and ultimately revenues to sustain a business from this will be key.
