IndiGo has selected West Entertainment to deliver a new in-flight entertainment (IFE) program across its upcoming A321XLR fleet as the airline prepares to expand into long-haul markets. The five-year agreement introduces a curated mix of Indian and international programming designed for passengers to stream directly on their personal devices. The partnership signals IndiGo’s intent to pair its long-haul ambitions with a modern entertainment experience tailored to a global audience.

Building a Long-Haul IFE Strategy

In 2023, IndiGo ordered 500 aircraft from the Airbus A320neo family, including 69 A321XLRs, the largest and longest-range variant in the series. The airline took delivery of its first A321XLR on January 7, and international service launched on January 23 from Delhi and Mumbai to Athens. The jets feature 195 seats, including 12 ‘IndiGo Stretch’ seats with 44-inches of pitch and 183 economy-class seats with a 31-inch of pitch.

With more than 400 aircraft and over 2,200 daily flights, IndiGo is one of the world’s fastest-growing airlines. As it enters the long-haul segment with A321XLR routes across Asia, the Middle East, and Europe, in-flight entertainment becomes a strategic extension of the brand. The new program in partnership with West Entertainment focuses on accessibility, variety, and cultural relevance, giving passengers a catalog that reflects both Indian identity and international appeal.

“As we commence long-haul operations on our new A321XLR aircraft, we are excited to offer a wide range of engaging in-flight entertainment,” said IndiGo Head of Global Sales Vinay Malhotra. “This high-quality content is in strategic partnership and collaboration with West Entertainment and can be directly accessed by passengers on their personal devices.”

Rather than positioning entertainment as an add-on, IndiGo is treating IFE as an integral part of the long-haul journey. Streaming to personal devices allows the airline to scale content without seatback hardware constraints while still offering a premium experience expected on extended routes.

Working with Regional Specilaists

Under the agreement, West Entertainment will work alongside strategic partners Shemaroo Contentino and Images in Motion to curate a library that spans Indian cinema, international films, television series, OTT content, music, and interactive programming. IndiGo attracts both domestic travelers and international guests, so the programming will reflect inbound and outbound traffic patterns, and will resonate across different languages and cultures.

“We are incredibly honored to be chosen by IndiGo to introduce in-flight entertainment across their brand-new A321XLR fleet,” said West Entertainment CEO Rick Warren. “IndiGo is widely recognized for redefining the low-cost carrier experience and consistently demonstrating that affordability and quality can go hand in hand. This partnership reflects our shared commitment to elevating the passenger journey by delivering a rich mix of Indian and international entertainment […] to ensure enjoyable long-haul travel for every guest.”

The structure of the deal allows IndiGo to adapt its IFE programming over time. Because everything runs through digital systems instead of fixed hardware libraries, the catalog can evolve with seasons and passenger trends. This flexibility matters as long-haul travel grows and expectations continue to rise.

Delivering a Modern, Scalable IFE Platform

West Entertainment’s role extends beyond licensing content. The company provides end-to-end infrastructure that supports how the library is managed, delivered, and refreshed. Its platform automates tasks like metadata, encoding, and workflow, so airlines don’t have to handle everything manually.

For carriers entering new route categories, operational simplicity becomes just as important as choosing the right content. West’s automated systems shorten turnaround time for updates and minimize manual intervention. That efficiency helps IndiGo maintain a consistent entertainment pipeline as its A321XLR fleet expands.

For West Entertainment, the IndiGo agreement builds on momentum on its recent partnership with All Nippon Airways (ANA), wherein the company helped launch one of the region’s most ambitious IFE streaming expansions. ANA’s refreshed platform introduced Disney+, Hulu, WOWOW, SAMANSA, and FANY Channel into the cabin, with West managing licensing, curation, scheduling, and localization across a complex multi-platform catalog.
