Prince Jackson made a rare revelation about his upbringing, looking back on his childhood at the Neverland Ranch.
Before his passing in 2009, the legendary singer Michael Jackson had three children: Prince, 28; Paris Jackson, 27; and Prince “Bigi” Jackson II, 23.
As a parent, Michael took extraordinary measures to shield his children from public attention by concealing their identities with blankets and masks during public appearances.
In the years following his passing, the three siblings have kept a low profile while occasionally sharing glimpses into Michael as a father.
During a rare interview on Mike Tyson’s Hotboxin podcast, Prince discussed his life as the son of a celebrated superstar, reports the Express.
The former professional boxer suggested the 28-year-old “must’ve had a pretty interesting life as a kid.”
Prince replied: “Very, very interesting. And as I’ve gotten older, I’ve grown to appreciate how unique and interesting it was.”
Discussing the Neverland Valley Ranch in California, he was questioned about the diverse wildlife at the ranch’s zoo.
The music video producer acknowledged: “That’s pretty crazy,” as he recalled there were “elephants, tigers, lions, a lot of primates like monkeys, gorillas, orangutans.”
He elaborated: “[My dad] loved animals when he was a kid. I think his first pets were two rats.
“As he was making more money and more music, he was able to buy more animals,” Prince continued. Fans will remember Michael’s iconic pet chimpanzee Bubbles, who often traveled with the star and attracted media attention.
The chimp even mingled with notable figures when he accompanied Michael to a tea meeting with the Mayor of Osaka, Yasushi Oshima, in 1987.
In their conversation, Prince also revealed details about his father’s skin condition, Vitiligo, and the insecurities it caused regarding his appearance.
He disclosed: “When I was younger, he was always explaining to me, speaking about that, he had a lot of insecurity around, kind of looking blotchy in his appearance.
“So he wanted to see if he could smooth out his appearance, to help with his security on his physical appearance.”
Michael himself famously discussed the change in his skin tone during his 1993 interview with Oprah Winfrey, stating it was “something I cannot help. When people makeup stories that I don’t want to be who I am, it hurts me.”
