Nicole Kidman has officially filed for divorce from Keith Urban, ending their 19-year marriage.
The Oscar-winning actress submitted the petition in a Nashville court on Tuesday, citing “suffered irreconcilable differences” as the reason for the split.
Both Kidman, 58, and Urban, 57, hail from Australia. The pair first crossed paths at a Los Angeles event honoring Australians in 2005 and tied the knot in Sydney the following year.
The couple shares two teenage daughters.
This marks the end of Urban’s first marriage and Kidman’s second. She was previously married to Hollywood star Tom Cruise from 1990 to 2001, with whom she has two older children.
Urban praised his wife for showing him “what love in action really looks like” particularly during the early days of their marriage when he was battling substance abuse issues.
“Four months into our marriage, I’m in rehab for three months,” Urban revealed. “Nic pushed through every negative voice, I’m sure even some of her own, and she chose love. And here we are 18 years later.”
Kidman’s illustrious career spans blockbuster hits like Days of Thunder, Eyes Wide Shut, Moulin Rouge, and The Hours, earning her an Oscar for her portrayal of writer Virginia Woolf. Her recent television work includes acclaimed series Nine Perfect Strangers and Big Little Lies, bringing home Emmy awards for both acting and producing.
Urban has dominated the country music scene since the 1990s with chart-toppers such as “Somebody Like You” and “Blue Ain’t Your Color.”
The superstar has claimed four Grammy Awards alongside more than a dozen Academy of Country Music honors.
