Sarah Ferguson, Prince Andrew’s ex-wife, has once again landed in hot water after an apologetic email she sent to convicted pedophile Jeffrey Epstein was revealed.
Despite publicly pledging to sever all connections with the notorious child sex offender in 2011, she sent him a personal apology shortly thereafter, referring to the American financier as a “supreme friend”.
Following the exposure of her correspondence with Epstein, Fergie has been ousted from several children’s charities, putting her financial and Royal standing at risk. However, this is not the first time the Duchess of York has faced public backlash.
In 1992, Sarah was photographed vacationing in southern France with her young daughters, Princess Beatrice and Eugenie, and Texas multimillionaire Steve Wyatt.
She had previously ignited rumors of an affair with Wyatt when pictures of them holidaying together in Morocco surfaced.
The Duke and Duchess announced their separation that same year, and Sarah relocated to a luxurious mansion in Surrey. She sought solace with her children at Romenda Lodge on the exclusive Wentworth Estate, which also boasts a golf course.
The wooded estate and its expansive mansions have housed many celebrities, including Sir Elton John, cricketer Kevin Pietersen, Sir Bruce Forsyth, and even the Sultan of Brunei, among others.
Fergie’s new beau, John Bryan, also made an appearance at her residence. Despite her attempts to keep a low profile, she stirred up quite the controversy when she and the American financier were caught in some rather compromising photos at a villa in St Tropez.

One particularly scandalous snap showed a topless Duchess having her toes sucked by the balding businessman, who was reportedly assisting her with financial matters.
Bryan moved into the rented mansion, costing £4,000 per month, with his new flame, and in 2022, he opened up about the four years he spent there with Fergie and the Princesses. He shared that Princess Diana would often drop by, bringing Prince William and Harry to visit their cousins.
He also alleged that the Queen would come over for tea with her grandchildren, who were safeguarded by a substantial team of Royal security.
“Most of the time we stayed home,” he disclosed to the Mail. “It was a gated community. We had 16 royal protection officers – four people working for eight-hour shifts, so 12 every day with four in reserve. They were there to protect the granddaughters of the Queen.
“There was a beautiful building at the back converted into an office for the officers with banks of cameras. One person was always in there, two would roam around and one would always be in the house with us. They became part of the family.”
The magnificent 1930s detached house boasted five bedrooms and was once incredibly luxurious. It’s believed that thousands of pounds were spent on renovations when Sarah moved in.
Architect Tchaik Chassay and interior designer Nina Campbell were reportedly brought in to renovate the property. According to The Sun, Campbell remarked at the time: “It’s a very country house, but with style.”
Years after Fergie, who currently resides at Royal Lodge in Windsor with her former husband, departed the residence, Alistair and Margaret Erskine purchased it in 2019 for £4.1m.
Photographs captured in 2020 by an urban explorer reveal the once-royal home in complete disrepair.
The expansive kitchen, where Fergie might have once prepared tea for the Queen and Diana, features a versatile central island complete with sink and cabinetry still standing, though plaster crumbles from the walls and makeshift fabric drapes block curious onlookers from peering inside.
Additional photographs from within the property reveal bathrooms adorned with marble-tiled basins and flooring, while a sauna appears surprisingly well-preserved. Carpeting bearing John Lewis markings on its backing has been torn away from living spaces that overlook the vast, neglected grounds.
An abandoned indoor swimming pool sits with a grimy cover collapsed into its depths, and dirty tennis balls scatter across the lawn. A decorative fish pond on the estate shows missing tiles along its edge, and an ornamental lion statue embodies the property’s diminished splendor as it sits nestled in overgrown vegetation, draped in verdant moss.
Shortly after these photos were captured, the house was torn down and Runnymede Borough Council granted permission for a new two-story eco-friendly building. The design mandates the inclusion of renewable and low carbon technology throughout, as well as electric charging points and rainwater harvesting systems.
The grand neo-Georgian design features split levels, a sunken basement, a garage, and expansive floor-to-ceiling windows.
