Internationally acclaimed harpist Lily Neill will bring the rich, surprising history of the harp to life during a special program at Gore Place in Waltham, according to a community announcement.
Neill’s performance, titled “The Story of the Harp,” takes place at 3 p.m. on Sunday, March 15, at the historic Gore Place estate. It will explore the global roots of the instrument and demonstrate its musical range through a blend of live pieces, fun facts and personal stories, according to the announcement.
The announcement also notes that versions of the harp appear worldwide, with a history that is both “rich and mysterious.” During her visit, Neill will guide listeners through that evolution while showcasing the harp’s versatility with selections ranging from original compositions to ragtime, traditional tunes, tangos and Early music.
Known for captivating audiences across the globe, Neill has earned praise from world leaders and artists, including The Chieftains. Her solo performances are celebrated for their dynamism and inventive approach.
“Put aside everything you ever thought you knew about the harp and open your ears to the wealth of sound that two hands and 30 strings can conjure,” the announcement said.
