James Franco is officially losing the plot – or so they say – because as a conspiracy believer, this could either be completely true or a very clever setup for a new movie.
Celebrities know exactly how to rope us into their shenanigans. Give the internet a mysterious video, a strange claim and a countdown, and suddenly everyone is investigating like they’re part of the FBI.
Franco recently took to Instagram and TikTok with a series of videos where he explains that something unusual has been happening around his home.
The actor claims he discovered something he believes is not human, sharing footage that appears to show an alien-like figure lurking around his property.
The account @jamesfranco2319 started posting in early June, with Franco insisting that it was “really me” and that he was not “promoting anything”. Naturally, that was the exact sentence guaranteed to make people suspicious.
When someone says they aren’t promoting something, the internet immediately starts searching for upcoming projects, trailers and hidden clues.
The videos eventually built up to a July 13 reveal, where Franco promised to share what he had found. In one earlier video, he claimed he had seen something strange in his garage, later saying: “I want to make it clear that this is not a hoax; this is real.”
The big reveal showed grainy black-and-white footage of what appeared to be an alien figure near his home, with the mysterious creature seemingly appearing behind trees, near doors and looking through windows.
Now, whether you believe Franco has uncovered something from another planet or think this is an elaborate Hollywood experiment, the timing and presentation definitely have people talking.
The whole thing feels like a scene from a found-footage horror movie mixed with the type of alien conspiracy theories that have fascinated people for years, especially in the US, where stories about secret government files, UFO sightings and “hidden truths” have built entire communities online.
For decades, speculation about extraterrestrials has occupied that peculiar boundary between absolute disbelief and the haunting curiosity of “but what if it is?”
The internet has only turned up the volume, with forums, Reddit threads and social media groups filled with people analysing blurry images, mysterious lights in the sky and alleged government cover-ups.
Some of the biggest theories revolve around claims that governments, particularly the US government, know more about UFOs and possible extraterrestrial life than they publicly admit.
Then there are the more creative theories, from aliens already living among humans to claims that world leaders have been secretly communicating with extraterrestrials.
Social media has become a playground for these ideas, where one strange video can go viral within hours and send thousands of people into detective mode, zooming into pixels and connecting dots that may or may not actually exist.
Is Franco the latest celebrity to uncover something we weren’t supposed to see, or is he simply creating the most committed movie teaser ever?
