While attending the premiere for The Bride!, Christian Bale, who stars opposite Jessie Buckley in Maggie Gyllenhaal’s gothic reimagining of the classic tale, recalled being taken aback by the script. Given that risk-driven ventures that don’t conform to proven formulas have been few and far between in the mainstream studio landscape, Bale admitted that when he first read The Bride!‘s script, he thought he had been sent the wrong screenplay.
As a result, he was pleasantly surprised to learn that WB was ready to bet $80 million on the movie (via Deadline), similar to Ryan Coogler’s Sinners (as per THR).
