PEORIA, Ill. (WMBD) — This weekend’s box office belonged to The Devil Wears Prada 2.
According to Box Office Pro, the long-awaited sequel opened to $77 million in its opening weekend. It was expected to open domestically between $95 million and $105 million. With Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway and Emily Blunt returning, along with plenty of nostalgia, the film will likely push past the $100 million mark in its second week.
Coming in at number two is Michael. The Michael Jackson biopic is projected to bring in another $50 million to $60 million after opening to nearly $100 million last weekend and becoming the biggest music biopic opening ever.
Rounding out the top three is The Super Mario Galaxy Movie. The Nintendo hit is expected to add another $10 million to $15 million in its fifth weekend. With very little family competition, the film continues to hold strong and is quickly closing in on the $400 million mark domestically.
Jack’s Review: Good Luck, Have Fun, Don’t Die
This week, I also checked out Good Luck, Have Fun, Don’t Die, a time-travel thriller starring Sam Rockwell.
Rockwell plays a time traveler trying to stop an artificial intelligence takeover that is essentially controlling people through their phones and media. It is a really interesting concept, and the movie has a lot of fun playing with its own time-travel rules.
Going in, I knew little about it, and that actually worked in the movie’s favor. It kept me engaged, and there were definitely some creative moments that felt different from a typical time-loop movie.
That said, I did call the big twist about halfway through, so it is not the most unpredictable story out there. But even with that, Rockwell does what he always does. He brings his A game. He is charismatic, fun to watch and really carries the movie.
At the end of the day, Good Luck, Have Fun, Don’t Die is not perfect, but it is definitely a unique watch, especially for fans of time-travel stories.
I’m giving Good Luck, Have Fun, Don’t Die a 6 out of 10.
