Forty years ago, Sigourney Weaver was shooting the French comedy “One Woman or Two” when she received an unexpected package. “A script was sent to me: ‘Aliens’ by James Cameron,” Weaver said during a recent interview with IndieWire. She was surprised to read a sequel to her 1979 hit directed by Ridley Scott, since no one at the studio had told her one was even in the works — yet her character, Ripley, was on nearly every page.
Weaver was even more surprised when she dug into the script and realized how good it was. “It was magnificent,” she said. “The greatest script I had ever read. I was just blown away by the humor and the humanity and the action.” Cameron, meanwhile, was nervous to meet with the star he desperately needed for what would mark his big studio directing debut.
