It’s evident that much is afoot in the James Gunn-led DCU, but what’s not quite settled yet is the final name that will take up the mantle of Batman. With many names frequently circulating online, Gunn has revealed that he, too, has a list of his own.
Speaking to The Ringer-Verse about casting updates for the upcoming Bat-tale titled The Brave and the Bold, Gunn said, “Do I have ideas about actors who could play Batman? Absolutely, I do. I have guys I like. I have guys that are top of the list for me, just like I had people that were at the top of the list for Superman.”
Of the many contenders for Batman, Reacher’s Alan Ritchson name has been thrown around online quite often. Gunn appears wary of some of these developments. Possibly talking about Ritchson, Gunn further added in the interview, “One actor in particular, a pretty big star, wants to be Batman. We’ve talked about it, but I don’t think that’s the case.”
Ritchson has been vocal about wanting to play Batman, but sadly, it seems this may not happen, although he feels there could still be a future for him in the DC universe.
Another name that fans feel confident about playing the Caped Crusader is 1923 star Brandon Sklenar, especially after Gunn expressed praise for the show. “Okay, I see what you’re doing. 1923, it’s a really good TV show, like I can’t believe how good that show was.”
For now, with no confirmation in sight, all we can do is wait!
