Whoops! According to The Bear star Jamie Lee Curtis, the Hulu culinary drama will call it quits after season 5. The series, which stars Jeremy Allen White and Ayo Edebiri as Chicago chefs, just finished filming the latest batch of episodes that will likely debut later this summer.
While FX and Hulu have yet to announce or confirm how long the series will run after season 5, it seems as if we have our answer. Seemingly to her own surprise, Curtis revealed Wednesday afternoon that the upcoming season is The Bear’s final run. Here’s what happened.
In an interview with Access Hollywood, the actress responded to a question about her latest Instagram post when she accidentally spilled the news. “FINISHED STRONG!” she wrote on social media. “Surrounded by an extraordinary crew and group of writers and producers and scene partners on the show that Chris Storer created, completing the story of this extraordinary family that we have all fallen in love with.”
The reporter asked her what she meant by writing that she completed the story, telling her, “People think you were confirming the show is ending.” Then, the actress stated that she was indeed referring to the final season of The Bear.
“But everybody’s confirmed the show is ending,” Curtis responded. “I don’t understand why that’s such a [big deal]. Unless I’m gonna get a call from all the people saying, ‘You just told [everyone],’ I think everybody understood that it was the last season of the show. If it isn’t, then I’ve completely blown it.”
FX has yet to respond to Curtis’ comments, but it seems fair to say she’s definitely about to receive some calls from all the people saying she’s completely blown it.
At the end of season 4, Carmy (White) made the brave decision to step away from the restaurant and work on himself. It was a highly controversial decision for fans, even if we felt that the powerful moment was wildly misunderstood and is exactly what the series needed to move the story forward. Now, it seems that the next step in Carmy’s journey is also his last.
