Jamie-Lynn Sigler reveals her final moment with The Sopranos costar James Gandolfini at his funeral in her new memoir, And So It Is…A Memoir of Acceptance and Hope.
The actress details her personal and professional life, along with her diagnosis of multiple sclerosis in the book and writes about her tenure on The Sopranos and relationship with the late actor, who played her onscreen father.
Gandolfini’s June 2013 funeral took place in New York City at the Cathedral of Saint John the Divine, Sigler recalls, and HBO, the Sopranos’ network, chartered a private plane from Los Angeles to New York for those on the West Coast to attend.
“HBO had it locked down, and nobody takes care of their people better than they do,” Sigler writes.
Among the attendees were Sopranos costars Edie Falco, Steve Schirripa, Steve Buscemi, Aida Turturro, and the show’s creator, David Chase, who delivered the eulogy.

Before leaving for the funeral service, Sigler had a moment alone with Gandolfini in his casket.
“I took my time walking up to the casket, not ready to face the reality,” she writes.
Sigler then knelt down on the platform beside the closed casket and placed her hands on it, she recalls, and said, “Thank you. Thank you for loving me, thank you for seeing me, for caring for me, and for making me feel safe.”
Following the funeral the repass took place at an Italian restaurant, which Sigler writes “only heightened the surreal nature of it all.”
“With the buffet and the drinks flowing and the cigars lit, it felt like a scene we had done many times at Artie Bucco’s,” the actress writes, referring to Vesuvio in The Sopranos.
Sigler, who was pregnant at the time, also mentioned Gandolfini’s son Michael, who is “such a talented actor and a beautiful person.” Michael “made me think of my own unborn boy,” Sigler writes, “Michael was Jim’s greatest work.”

“This was the true ending of The Sopranos,” Sigler concludes. “Jim had been the sun that we all revolved around; he had been the center. With him, the entire experience was now laid to rest.”
