While talking to Polygon, Jason Fuchs confirmed the My Hero Academia live-action script is finally in the works. This means that after the film was announced over seven years ago, it is finally in pre-production. Although Netflix is the one that has taken over the project, they have said very little about the film since they took ownership. Jason Fuchs is also the showrunner of It: Welcome to Derry, and a lot of elements from both shows could easily seep into one another. That said, fans are once again skeptical about a live-action anime adaptation.
“I’m in the middle of writing it right now, so we’ve not gotten to the casting portion of it,” Fuchs told Polygon.
Netflix is responsible for bringing One Piece to the live-action format, but that is the only notable live-action anime success. Every other project has been ultimately marred by failure. Nevertheless, that won’t stop the studio from continuing to try with other popular franchises. Even if the My Hero Academia live-action is only slightly popular, it could launch a whole new branch of live-action series.
Production definitely takes time, but waiting more than seven years for almost any news about a project isn’t sending positive signals to the fans. Many already believe the project is doomed to be a failure before it even begins. In stark contrast, the 8th and final season of the My Hero Academia anime has finally aired to an insane amount of praise. It’s very likely that Fuchs wanted to update fans in this period of positive buzz surrounding the franchise.
Overall, the My Hero Academia live-action script is finally in production. Although it is noticeably shorter than One Piece, it could serve even harder to adapt. That said, hardcore fans are hopeful that their favorite franchise will be done right.
