Mile High Jazz Band Association presents Carson City’s 22nd annual Jazz & Beyond Music Festival, with 10 days of entertainment featuring more than 25 performances.

The festival opener will be from 4:30-8 p.m. Friday at the Governor’s Mansion. Performers include Kantu Inka and the Reno Jazz Orchestra.

An afternoon at the historic Silver Saddle Ranch will be from 2:30-6:30 p.m. Sunday. Gates open at 2 p.m. Enjoy the music of Doug Sandall and Dale Poune; cowboy poetry by Nancy Harris McLelland, Jo Foster, and Larry Marinel; and country band, Sagebrush Rebels.

Mule-drawn wagons will provide tours through the ranchland. Food, beverages, and Scoups ice cream will be available. Seating is limited, bring chairs.

Basie’s Birthday concert will be from 7-9 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 21 at the McFadden Plaza stage. This year, the band will be joined by vocalist Jakki Ford, and guest vocalists Dale Head and Millie Bratsch.

For the first time, Darrell and the Darrell-Licks bring folk music, stories, and smiles to Jazz & Beyond. Other performers include the Retro Radio Dolls, Dom and Friends, New World Jazz Project, the Bepop Revival featuring Monique De Haviland, Cherie and John and Take This, RoseBud’s Dance Band, Lucky Diamond and the Incontinentals, Impromptu, Jazz Catz, Carolyn Dolan Band and more.

The festival wraps up on Sunday, Aug. 24, with high-energy, Latin-jazz ensemble No Comprende from 7:30-9:30 p.m. at the McFadden Plaza stage.

Thursday

• Moni’s ‘30s and ‘40s Bebop revival will perform live from 6:30-8 p.m. at Dangberg Home Ranch Historic Park in Minden. Cost is $20. For information or tickets, visit https://dangberg.org/index.php/events/.

• Join the Nevada State Railroad Museum for its Behind the Rails lecture series. The series runs from 6:30-7:30 p.m. on the second Thursday the month.

Admission is $10 for adults and members. Children 17 and under are free. The museum is located at 2180 S. Carson St.

Friday

• Northern Nevada Dream Center’s seventh annual Back to School Bash will be at Mills Park in Carson City from 6-8 p.m. The event will feature fire trucks, treats, games, free groceries/resources for families, lunch boxes stuffed with school supplies, hygiene items and more. • Delta Wires, a harmonica-and-horns blues band, will perform live from 7:30-10 p.m. at the Nashville Social Club, 1105 S. Carson St. Tickets range from $20-$25.

Saturday

• The Carson Farmers Market is from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Marv Teixeira Pavilion at Mills Park. The market runs Saturdays through Oct. 4. For information, go to carsonfarmersmarket.com.

• Join the Greenhouse Garden Center for a seminar on ornamental grasses from 9:30-10:30 a.m. Class fee is $5. Proceeds benefit a local charity. For information, call 775-882-8600 or visit https://greenhousegardencenter.com/.

• Cars and donuts will be from 10 a.m. to noon at Battle Born Harley-Davidson in Carson City. The event will feature raffles, food, vendors and more. Free.

• Historian Michael Fischer will speak on Nevada’s notorious mobsters from 10-11 a.m. at Dangberg Home Ranch Historic Park in Minden. For information, visit https://dangberg.org/index.php/events/.

• Join the Carson City Historical Society for its ice cream social fundraiser from 2-4 p.m. at the Foreman-Roberts House Museum, 1207 N. Carson St. The event will feature free entertainment by the Carson Street Ragtime Band. Ice cream is $3. Admission is free.

Sunday
