Jelly Roll is no stranger to being open about his emotions, and his recent tearful display was certainly no exception.

The 41-year-old artist, who has recently dropped a whopping 200lbs, was filming the second live episode of Netflix’s Star Search when he broke down in tears and was unable to speak after a powerful performance by contestant Bear, who sang Jelly and Brandon Lake’s Hard Fought Hallelujah.

Bear picked the song before it was announced that Jelly would be one of the judges for Netflix’s rebooted series, and as he belted out the lyrics, it seemingly went down well with the Wild Ones singer as he was unable to hold back his emotions.

As the performance came to an end, the audience erupted into applause and cheers, while Sarah Michelle Gellar, Jelly’s fellow judge, was seen quietly holding him as he composed himself.

As host Anthony Anderson took to the stage, he asked Bear why he chose the song, and he shared, “I am a very imperfect person… but Jesus has redeemed me. Jelly, I have lost everything because of addiction and I am not perfect and I serve a God who is.”

Jelly, who has had a very similar backstory to the contestant, was unable to collect his words and give feedback on the performance.

“Mistakes are made, and it happens to everybody. You have a beautiful voice, beautiful,” said judge Chrissy Teigen, who jumped in as Jelly continued to compose himself. “Jelly himself said he wants to hear feeling and passion, and I think we all heard feeling in your voice. It was a thing of beauty to hear. I think you may have found a brother for life.”

Sarah then chimed in, “I will make it very simple, we came to Star Search to find a star, and we found one.”

Jelly’s emotional reaction came on the heels of him enranging anti-MAGA fans when he announced he would be performing at Kid Rock’s upcoming music festival.

Kid Rock, an avid MAGA supporter and close friend of President Donald Trump, is hosting a “festival for the people” called Rock the Nation this summer. The event boasts eight “massive” shows across eight towns, including Bellville, Texas, and Ocala, Florida.

Also expected to perform alongside Jelly in the lineup are Miranda Lambert, Blake Shelton, Lynard Skynard, and Nelly. Originally, rapper and Fast and Furious star Ludacris was supposed to perform at the festival, but dropped out amid intense scrutiny from his fans.

And it appeared Jelly’s fans had a similar stance on this, too. After the announcement, the singer’s fans took to social media to share their disappointment with his inclusion, with one person writing on Threads, “Oh man. Jelly Roll? I’m heartbroken.”

Another user echoed, “I can’t believe I defended @jellyroll615 and then this BS…. apparently Ludacris dropped out when he saw the WAVE of comments. This is a full-on MAGA train, and I’m so saddened by a lot of these names, but not surprised.” While a fourth commented, “I’m shocked people are surprised by this. He has MAGA vibes.”

Jelly has not yet spoken out about the backlash he’s received from fans.
