Jennifer Garner Details Ben Affleck Coparenting Relationship

Jennifer Garner offered a glimpse into her coparenting dynamic with ex-husband Ben Affleck.

“There is a time in your life where you do get caught in all of that. And that’s OK,” Garner, 54, told Entertainment Weekly in an interview published Thursday, July 16, while reflecting on finding the balance between a successful career and being present at home.

“That’s a season,” she continued. “And it’s a beautiful thing. I wouldn’t trade a minute of it.”

Garner further opened up about how raising her three kids, Violet, 20, Seraphina, 17, and Samuel, 13, has changed since diving back into acting, admitting she “absolutely” prioritized staying at home in the past.

“My kids are a little bigger 1784300916,” Garner added. “Their dad — ex-husband [Affleck] — has become this incredible coparent. And I have this unbelievable [business] partner who produces with me things that we control and are able to help keep in L.A. … I love making movies anywhere, but I really want to make movies at home.”

The actress recalled previously finding ways to bring her kids with her when she worked, saying, “Now they’re in high school, you can’t really do that anymore. But they can stay with their dad.”

She gushed over Affleck, 53, adding, “He’s wonderful. He takes care of them. He’s a great partner in that way. And that’s very freeing.”

The former couple initially met on the set of Pearl Harbor in 2001 and reconnected three years later. They exchanged vows in June 2005 before expanding their family.

Following a decade of marriage, Affleck and Garner announced their split in 2015.

“After much thought and careful consideration, we have made the difficult decision to divorce,” they said in a joint statement at the time. “We go forward with love and friendship for one another and a commitment to coparenting our children whose privacy we ask to be respected during this difficult time. This will be our only comment on this private, family matter. Thank you for understanding.”

The duo’s divorce was finalized in 2018. A source later told Us Weekly that coparenting was “a work in progress” for Affleck and Garner.

“Things come up between them, but they are committed to doing the best they can for the kids,” the insider revealed in 2020. “They stay on top of things and have a lot of meetings and check-ins. They want to be the best parents they can for the kids. If they have differences, they keep it to themselves and don’t let it have an impact. They always put on happy faces for the kids and put their well-being first.”

Affleck and Garner have both publicly moved on since calling it quits. Garner was first linked to on-off boyfriend John Miller in 2018, while Affleck rekindled his romance with Jennifer Lopez in early 2021.

The Gone Girl actor and Lopez, 56, were previously engaged from 2002 to 2004. He proposed again in 2022, with the couple getting married that same year. Us confirmed in August 2024 that Lopez filed for divorce, finalizing the proceedings in January 2025.
