Jeremy Allen White got to know Bruce Springsteen well while portraying the iconic musician in Springsteen: Deliver Me from Nowhere, and he revealed the surprising thing they bonded over during the filming process.
While talking to People in an interview published on Monday, September 29, White, 34, said that he asked Springsteen, 76, early on in the process “really directly, ‘Why this film? Why this period?’ And even what happened on this journey, on this road trip in really specific moments. And he was immediately so honest.”
“He talked to me about a panic attack he’d had, and he described it to me as in this moment he felt like he was like a voyeur in his own life,” White shared. “He was an observer. He felt so outside of himself, and he told me that story, and that’s a feeling I’m familiar with.”
The Bear star continued, “I think I’m always trying to find some presence in my own life, and I worked very hard at it every day. And when he told me that story and made me familiar with that feeling, I knew there was a tether that I could explore there.”

White shared their personal conversation after the biopic was screened at the New York Film Festival on September 28. Following the screening, Springsteen took the stage to perform “Land of Hope and Dreams” and thanked everyone involved in Deliver Me From Nowhere for making the film possible.
“I want to thank everybody for coming out to see our film tonight and our crew, a great cast,” he said before specifically thanking White “for putting his whole heart and soul into the part — just such a wonderful job — and for playing a much better-looking version of me.”
Deliver Me from Nowhere, which is set to hit theaters on October 24, chronicles the making of Springsteen’s 1982 Nebraska album. While he starts the films as a young musician, he struggles to balance of pressures of success with the ghosts of his past as his star rises.
