Jessica Simpson is rewinding the clock on an early 2000s hair trend.
The 45-year-old singer arrived at the premiere of Hulu’s new legal drama series, “All’s Fair,” starring Kim Kardashian and Sarah Paulson, on Thursday night in Los Angeles with a hairdo nicknamed the “Millennial BumpIt” online. The look is a half-up, half-down style marked by messy waves and a teased nest pinned at the crown.

Paired with her black latex gown and a silver necklace stack, Simpson’s hair embodied the ultimate Y2K archetype wrapped in muddy coloring. Her long blond ends drew a stark contrast to her faded brown roots, which were parted down the middle and brushed up in the back. Her front layers were left out of the pouf, weaving in and out of the longer sections around her face instead.
Simpson has famously collaborated with hair architect Ken Pavés, stylist to best friend duo Victoria Beckham and Eva Longoria. However, Pavés has not yet been credited as the artist behind the “I Wanna Love You Forever” singer’s Thursday night look. WWD has reached out to him for confirmation.

It’s no surprise Simpson enlivened the “Millennial BumpIt.” A fixture of early 2000s pop culture herself, the fashion designer donned variations of the look throughout the early 21st century. Gen Zers will also recall stars such as Anna Maria Perez de Tagle, Ashley Tisdale, Miley Cyrus and Vanessa Hudgens sporting the style at major red carpet events like the Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards and Disney Channel premiere events.
For her nails, Simpson opts for chrome extensions.

Invented by Kelly Fitzpatrick-Bennett in 2008, the BumpIt has since found its place in modern-day beauty trends as a result of burgeoning Y2K nostalgia taking place on TikTok and Instagram, where videos of old commercials, advertisements and movies are being shared between clips of the Jonas Brothers bringing out Demi Lovato during their tour in August and Miley Cyrus talking about the 20th-anniversary of Hannah Montana. Brands such as Nivea and Saint James Iced Tea have thus tapped into the longing, introducing their own individual collaborations with Juicy Couture less than a month apart.
