When Jessie J canceled her U.S. tour after a devastating breast cancer diagnosis, the pop star had no idea if she’d ever return to the stage. But, just shy of three months post-op, the 37-year-old was back on stage to perform in front of her adoring fans.
Perhaps the biggest fan of all had to be her 2-year-old son Sky Safir, who watched from the stage as his mother became overwhelmed by emotion as she shared the story of her breast cancer journey, including the fact that this milestone return to performing was even more special than anyone realized, as it was Sky’s first time seeing his mom singing live in front of an audience. All of that was enough to make Jessie J choke up and deliver a performance that she later called a “highlight.”
Jessie J Made Her Triumphant Return to the Stage After Her Cancer Surgery
An emotional Jessie J addressed the crowd gathered at her Essex concert, explaining to them how big of a deal it was for her to be there. According to People magazine, she admitted that her breast cancer surgery had been completed “11 weeks ago today.” It was an especially poignant moment since she had to cancel part of her last tour, and she admitted that she had “no idea what was going to happen” with her future during that final performance.
That being said, she told the audience that she was “so grateful” to be on stage, something that was magnified by the presence of her son who she shares with her boyfriend Chanan Safir Colman.

Jessie J’s Son Joined His Mom on Stage
Jessie J may have been feeling emotional about returning to performing, but we can’t imagine that there was a dry eye in the house when her son ran out onto the stage and jumped into his mom’s arms. The moment was captured by BBC Radio, who presented the concert and shared the heartwarming moment on Instagram.
Sky proved the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree when it comes to performing, and he belted out a few notes of “Happy Birthday” with his mom as the rest of the audience sweetly joined in.
We’re glad to see Jessie J is doing so much better and is well enough to start performing again. Hopefully this is a sign that her journey through the recovery process will be a smooth one, and that she’ll continue getting to do what she loves—with the people she loves—for many years to come!
