It feels like the world has probably seen the last of Jimmy Kimmel hosting a late-night show for ABC after the network put him on indefinite hiatus this week.
Kimmel got the boot after FCC Chairman Brendan Carr threatened to take action against ABC after Kimmel’s Sept. 15 monologue.
While speaking on Benny Johnson’s podcast Wednesday, Carr said the FCC has “remedies we can look at.”
“We can do this the easy way or the hard way,” he told Johnson. “These companies can find ways to change conduct and take action, frankly, on Kimmel or there’s going to be additional work for the FCC ahead.”
So, what did Kimmel say?
“We hit some new lows over the weekend with the MAGA gang desperately trying to characterize this kid who murdered Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them and doing everything they can to score political points from it,” he said in the monologue. “In between the finger-pointing, there was grieving.
“On Friday, the White House flew the flags at half staff, which got some criticism, but on a human level, you can see how had the president is taking this.”
Kimmel then cut to a clip of the president being interviewed in front of the White House. “There’s something wrong with him, there really is,” he continued. “Who thinks like that? Why are we building a $200 million ballroom in the White House? Is it possible he’s doing it intentionally so we can be mad about that instead of the Epstein list? By the time he’s out of office, the White House will have slot machines and a water slide.”
Prior to his show last week, Kimmel shared condolences to Kirk’s family on Instagram.
“Instead of the angry finger-pointing, can we just for one day agree that it is horrible and monstrous to shoot another human?” he wrote. “On behalf of my family, we send love to the Kirks and to all the children, parents and innocents who fall victim to senseless gun violence.”
Despite that, Nexstar and Sinclair rejected Kimmel’s show before ABC finally put him on indefinite hiatus.
If that is it for Kimmel, and he walks away altogether, he did well for himself.
According to CelebrityNetWorth.com he had a salary of $15 million per year. Losing that cash flow will surely hurt, but the site said he has a current estimated net worth of $50 million.
So, if there is a bright side for Kimmel and his fans, it appears to be that whether or not he ends up back on the air, it would appear that he already stacked up enough cash to take care of his family and have a pretty nice life.
