Jimmy Kimmel’s return to the screen after his controversial suspension sparked a mixed reaction from viewers. The host used the opportunity to speak out against Donald Trump and his ‘attempt’ to silence late-night TV.
Jimmy Kimmel Live! was off air from Wednesday, September 17, following his remarks about murdered activist Charlie Kirk.
His first day back on the job, Jimmy was sure to address the situation in his opening monologue. While breaking down in tears as he addressed his comments on Charlie Kirk last week, Kimmel did not have such a light reaction to Donald Trump.
After Jimmy’s show was pulled from the air, Trump said the presenter had no ratings anyway, with the host brutally replying this evening: “Well, I do tonight.” While official ratings are not in for the show tonight, it’s expected to have broken some records.
“He did his best to cancel me. Instead, he forced millions of people to watch the show,” Kimmel said Tuesday night.
He added, “That backfired bigly. He might have to release the Epstein files to distract us from this now.”
He then took another jab at the president, saying, “I’m not sure who had a weirder 48 hours, me or the CEO of Tylenol,” after Trump claimed it is linked to autism.
Taking to X, fans reacted to the brutal jab.
“WOW! Jimmy Kimmel is not holding back on Trump at all,” one user stated.
Another added, “Jimmy Kimmel still blaming Donald Trump for his own disgusting joke about Charlie Kirk’s murderer!”
Kimmel’s return to screens was announced on Monday, September 22, with a statement from Jimmy Kimmel Live that read, “Last Wednesday, we decided to suspend production on the show to avoid further inflaming a tense situation at an emotional moment for our country.

“We made this decision because we felt some of the comments were ill-timed and thus insensitive. We have spent the last days having thoughtful conversations with Jimmy, and after those conversations, we reached the decision to return the show on Tuesday.”
ABC decided to halt the show following backlash over Kimmel’s comments about Kirk’s murder.
On Monday, September 15, Kimmel delivered a monologue making remarks about the suspect in Kirk’s assassination, 22 year old Tyler Robinson.
He proclaimed, “We had some new lows over the weekend with the MAGA gang desperately trying to characterize this kid who murdered Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them and with everything they can to score political points from it.”
Just under an hour before the show’s comeback, Trump took to Truth Social to take another jab at Kimmel.
“I can’t believe ABC Fake News gave Jimmy Kimmel his job back. The White House was told by ABC that his Show was cancelled!”
“Something happened between then and now because his audience is GONE, and his “talent” was never there. Why would they want someone back who does so poorly, who’s not funny, and who puts the Network in jeopardy by playing 99% positive Democrat GARBAGE.”
“He is yet another arm of the DNC and, to the best of my knowledge, that would be a major Illegal Campaign Contribution. I think we’re going to test ABC out on this. Let’s see how we do. Last time I went after them, they gave me $16 Million Dollars.”
