“Jimmy Kimmel Live!” is returning just days after it was suspended indefinitely after the late-night talk show host’s comments about the assassination of Charlie Kirk were criticized by the head of the Federal Communications Commission.
“Last Wednesday, we made the decision to suspend production on the show to avoid further inflaming a tense situation at an emotional moment for our country,” the Walt Disney Company made in a statement provided to the Desert Sun.
ABC is owned by Disney.
“It is a decision we made because we felt some of the comments were ill-timed and thus insensitive,” the statement continued. “We have spent the last days having thoughtful conversations with Jimmy, and after those conversations, we reached the decision to return the show on Tuesday.”
The move had prompted celebration by President Donald Trump and critics of Kimmel’s comments about Kirk, the 31-year-old Turning Point founder who was fatally shot at a Utah college earlier this month. But it also quickly spurred backlash, including prompting some to cancel their subscriptions to Disney+ and the Disney-owned Hulu.
