Stewart, like his fellow late night hosts Jimmy Kimmel and Stephen Colbert, tackled the latest miserable news out of Minneapolis: the killing of Alex Pretti by Ice agents. Pretti, who brought a firearm and extra clips to protest the ongoing Ice presence, attempted to intervene when an agent shoved a woman to the ground. Pretti, an ICU nurse, was disarmed and shot to death by agents.
The Department of Homeland Security and the Border Patrol are publicly supporting the Ice agents, though they do not appear to be peddling the most accurate recount of the tragic incident. An overwhelming amount of video evidence seems to contradict the assertion that Pretti “brandished” his own weapon, as government officials have repeatedly stated.
