Key Points
- Ariana Grande and Jonathan Bailey may star in a production of ‘Sunday in the Park With George’ in 2027.
- The musical plans a London premiere, directed by Marianne Elliott, pending actor confirmation.
- Both actors currently star in ‘Wicked: For Good’ and have other upcoming projects.
Two of the main stars of the popular Wicked film duology, Ariana Grande and Jonathan Bailey, are already in talks to reunite in an exciting new project in 2027.
On Dec. 16, Deadline reported that both Bailey and Grande were in talks to lead a production of the critically acclaimed musical Sunday in the Park With George by Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine.
It is in the early stages of planning, but according to the report, the musical is set to be directed by Tony Award winner Marianne Elliott and the team behind the project is aiming to have it premiere in London, England, at the Barbican Theatre in the summer of 2027.
As of writing, neither Grande nor Bailey has officially signed on, but everyone is allegedly “cautiously optimistic” that the current plans will move forward, including the two lead actors.
Grande Might’ve Teased the Musical Appearance in a Recent Interview
In November, Grande spoke with The New York Times about the new film Wicked: For Good, and her plans for the future.
During the enlightening conversation, the singer and actress teased a new project related to theater, saying, “It’s not on Broadway, but it’s something that I’m very excited about and inspired by.”
She didn’t share any further details, but based on the new report about Sunday in the Park With George, the stage production would definitely fit her description.
For Bailey, this would be a relatively quick return to the West End, as he completed a run at the Bridge Theatre earlier this year playing the title character in an adaptation of William Shakespeare‘s Richard II. The project was directed by Nicholas Hytner.

Fans Can Still See Bailey and Grande in Wicked: For Good
As fans await an official confirmation of Bailey and Grande’s possible post-Wicked reunion on stage, they can still see them as Fiyero and Glinda in Wicked: For Good, which premiered in theaters on Nov. 21.
The movie continues the story of 2024’s Wicked, which stars the two actors and Cynthia Erivo as Elphaba. Other cast members include Jeff Goldblum, Michelle Yeoh, Marissa Bode, Bowen Yang, and more.
Grande also already has two other projects coming up, with the 32-year-old set to star opposite Robert De Niro and Ben Stiller in Focker In-Law and appear as part of the ensemble cast in the highly anticipated next season of American Horror Story.
As for Bailey, he will return as his fan-favorite Bridgerton character, Anthony, in the next season of the hit Netflix romance series, with the first part of Season 4 premiering at the end of January.
