This Morning star Josie Gibson has reportedly been in advanced talks to join BBC’s Strictly Come Dancing, with sources claiming the Big Brother winner is closer than ever to signing up
Beloved This Morning presenter Josie Gibson is poised to join the Strictly Come Dancing line-up. A firm favourite with viewers, the Bristolian has reportedly been on producers’ wish list for some time and nearly committed to the show three years ago.
Now, the Big Brother alumnus appears closer than ever to finalising her participation in this year’s series.
The news arrives during a period of significant upheaval at the BBC programme, which has witnessed the departure of multiple professional dancers, while veteran presenters Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman have also stepped away from the show.
Following a succession of controversies surrounding the programme, insiders suggest that producers are determined to leave the drama behind and embark on a new chapter. They reportedly view Josie as the perfect addition, thanks to her bubbly character that regularly leaves audiences in stitches.
“Josie has been on the BBC’s radar for a while and they’ve not given up their pursuit,” a source revealed. They continued: “They’re hoping this year is the year, and talks are progressing well.”
Speaking to The Sun, the insider explained: “Bosses are convinced her down-to-earth charm will be the boost this year’s new-look show needs. Warm and engaging, she’s just what they require right now and will be a sure-fire hit with fans.”
Josie was in discussions to join the show in 2023 and found herself at the heart of a tug-of-war between Strictly and I’m A Celebrity. Ultimately, ITV secured her participation, with Josie finishing in fourth place in the jungle, reports the Mirror.
The television personality captured the nation’s heart when she first appeared on Channel 4’s Big Brother in 2010, taking home the crown. Nine years on, she joined This Morning as a competition announcer, progressing to a presenting role within two years.
Recently, Josie has been candid about her personal journey and weight loss, having tried intermittent fasting alongside a balanced diet and regular exercise regime. Josie, who previously went from a size 20 to a size eight, has also spoken publicly about her lipoedema diagnosis, a condition that causes fat accumulation in the legs.
Despite her achievements, she has no plans to commit to This Morning as a permanent presenter in the near future. “I only get to be a mum once and you never get that time back,” she explained.
Josie continued: “I need to be down this neck of the woods. I love the West Country. That’s where I’m from. That’s where I feel myself, and that’s where I feel like I can grow.” She’s also candid about the highs and lows of parenthood with her substantial social media following.
When questioned about whether she views herself as a role model for other parents, she responds with a modest chuckle, “Oh, no – please, no,” she said. “Mums don’t look up to me. I’m juggling, I’m struggling, I’m stressed,” she explained.
The Mirror has contacted representatives for Strictly and Josie for comment.
