“Don’t Stop Believin'” is one of several hit songs that return to the Billboard charts this week following the Fourth of July, and it brings Journey to new all-time peaks. Journey is one of the most successful rock bands of all time on the Billboard charts, and while the group racked up many hits during its heyday, one stands out as a time-tested smash. “Don’t Stop Believin’” remains one of the bestselling and most popular songs of all time, a major streaming success and a pop culture phenomenon decades after its release.

The tune is one of several old favorites that soar on the Billboard charts this week, as Americans appear to have attached it to the July Fourth holiday. “Don’t Stop Believin’” returns to the most important songs tally in the country, debuts on another list and rises to new peaks on multiple worldwide rankings.

Journey Debuts on the Streaming Songs Chart

“Don’t Stop Believin’” debuts at No. 33 on the Streaming Songs chart, which ranks the most-played songs of any genre in the United States via websites and apps like Apple Music, Spotify and other, similar platforms. The debut gives Journey its first placement on the roster. The list did not exist when the band was releasing its biggest hits, and streaming platforms would not become a major part of the music industry for decades.

Several Older Hits Reach the Streaming Chart

“Don’t Stop Believin’” is one of several years- or even decades-old tunes that debut on the Streaming Songs chart following the July 4 holiday. Lynyrd Skynyrd’s “Sweet Home Alabama,” Zac Brown Band’s “Chicken Fried,” Bruce Springsteen’s “Born in the U.S.A.,” Creedence Clearwater Revival’s “Fortunate Son” and John Denver’s “Take Me Home, Country Roads” also land on the ranking for the first time. Most of those cuts give the veteran musical acts behind them their debut placements on the streaming-only roster.

“Don’t Stop Believin’” Dances to New Global Chart Peaks

The same smash soars to new high points on both of Billboard’s worldwide songs lists. “Don’t Stop Believin’” bounds from No. 106 to No. 44 on the Billboard Global 200, which ranks the most-consumed songs around the planet using sales and streaming activity.

The track performs even better on the Billboard Global Excl. U.S., a similar tally that purposefully ignores consumption from American listeners in order to show what the rest of the world is listening to. Journey’s signature single leaps from No. 165 to No. 74. Both of those positions mark new peaks for “Don’t Stop Believin’” and for Journey.

Journey Returns to the Billboard Hot 100

“Don’t Stop Believin’” also finds its way back to the Billboard Hot 100 at No. 35. The ranking details the most popular songs in the United States each week using sales, streams and radio activity. It is relatively uncommon for a decades-old hit to return to the tally, especially one that first charted so long ago. “Don’t Stop Believin’” originally peaked at No. 9 in 1981, and now it becomes a top 40 win all over again.

The song’s reappearance is largely tied to streaming, as evidenced by its simultaneous debut on the Streaming Songs chart. “Don’t Stop Believin’” also climbs back into the top 10 on the Rock Streaming Songs roster, jumping from No. 14 to No. 7.

Journey’s Greatest Hits Debuts on a Streaming Chart

Thanks largely to the current and sudden success of “Don’t Stop Believin’,” Journey’s Greatest Hits becomes the band’s first project to land on the Top Streaming Albums chart. The compilation launches at No. 47 on the ranking, which looks only at the full-lengths and EPs that rack up the most streams in the U.S. The set includes all of Journey’s most familiar songs, but “Don’t Stop Believin’” is responsible for a substantial portion of the title’s current activity.

Journey’s Greatest Hits Climbs on Three Other Lists

The compilation also appears on three additional Billboard albums lists this week. Journey’s Greatest Hits rises from No. 13 to No. 10 on the Top Rock Albums chart, returning to the highest tier. On the Top Rock & Alternative Albums ranking, the collection comes within one rung of the top 10 as it improves from No. 17 to No. 11. It has already climbed as high as No. 4 on both rock-focused rosters.

Journey’s Greatest Hits also surges on the Billboard 200, leaping from No. 60 to No. 44. The long-running set has now spent 917 weeks on the country’s main albums tally, where it ranks as one of the longest-charting titles of all time – and one of only three to rack up 900 stays or more.
