Judd Apatow Honors Late Rob Reiner at ‘Mel Brooks: The 99 Year Old Man’ Premiere: ‘It’s an Unfillable Hole’

At the Los Angeles premiere of the HBO documentary “Mel Brooks: The 99 Year Old Man,” co-director and executive producer Judd Apatow took a moment to pay tribute to the late Rob Reiner, who features prominently in the film.

“It’s just an unspeakable tragedy, because he was just the best person, and so is Michele,” Apatow told Variety. “They really fought for the political causes they believed in. They walked the walk, put in the time, and I think they made the world a much better place, in addition to their artistry, and it’s an unfillable hole.”

Reiner plays a significant role in the two-part documentary, which premiered Thursday, Jan. 22 on HBO. The Reiner family had a close, decades-long relationship with Brooks.
