Kacey Musgraves is promoting her new album, Middle of Nowhere. The dominant story is that she collaborated with Miranda Lambert after being chilly for years. This isn’t a Katy Perry/Taylor Swift Bad Blood-level feud but there are some similarities: Katy and Taylor fell out over tour dancers, and Kacey co-wrote “Mama’s Broken Heart” for her own album but it was shopped to Miranda, who ultimately ended up putting it on her album.
Years later, they are both solid in their careers so it probably makes it sting a little less, and it was Kacey who reached out. “Horses and Divorces” is a great song title.
It really is 2016 again because Lindy West, a staple of the 2010s Internet culture war, is back to kick up a lot of conversations promoting her new book, Adult Braces. First up is a Modern Love podcast on practicing polyamory with her husband. It’s…complicated. She also gave an interview to Variety about her semi-autobiographical TV show, Shrill, and says she felt like an outsider during the process. It’s an interesting read and also very aligned with what a lot of novice TV creators experience, the shock of having their story chopped up and put back together for a storyline. Hacks and The Comeback are great at exploring the kind of gutting compromises it takes to lead a show, and for an oldie but a goodie, Episodes.

Family Guy has been on for TV for 25 years, which is kind of bonkers, and Stewie (the talking baby) just got a spin-off. I’m not super familiar with the show but isn’t he like a main character who most of the storylines are built around? Is the spin-off necessary because it will be a new tone, or new characters – what are they doing with this character that can’t be done on Family Guy? I’m not sure, but it’s been given a two-season order. Not two episodes, two full seasons. After 25 years, Seth MacFarlane has definitely earned that confidence from Fox.
