Boykin Series 28 welcomes acclaimed stand-up comedian Karen Morgan for an evening of sharp, clean and refreshingly relatable comedy at 7:30 p.m. Friday, April 17. With a style that blends quick wit, Southern storytelling and keen observation, Morgan delivers humor that feels both nostalgic and right on target for those who love live entertainment that is smart, warm and genuinely funny.
A former trial attorney, Morgan made the bold leap from the courtroom to the stage, trading legal briefs for punchlines and never looking back. Born and raised in Athens, Georgia, she now calls Cumberland, Maine, home, but her Southern roots remain a cornerstone of her comedy. Her perspective is shaped by a childhood many audience members will recognize instantly. It was a time of riding bikes without helmets, playing outside until dark and growing up, as she puts it, “unsupervised and dehydrated.” That shared generational experience fuels much of her material, creating an immediate connection with audiences who laugh not just because it is funny, but because it is familiar.
Morgan has released two hit Dry Bar Comedy specials, “Go Dawgs!” in 2020 and “Rub Some Dirt On It” in 2023, the latter earning a spot as the No. 4 clip in Dry Bar Comedy’s Top 10 of the Year. She was recently featured on the CBS show “The Talk,” and her latest audio album, “Shiny Happy People Laughing,” recorded in Athens and named with permission from hometown icons R.E.M., airs exclusively on SiriusXM.
She is still licensed to practice law in Maine and Georgia, is an avid open water swimmer and openly admits to enjoying any tour stop that includes a nearby Waffle House.
