More than 15 years after their marriage publicly came to an end, Kate Gosselin is opening up about the aftermath of her messy divorce from former husband Jon Gosselin — and the toll it took on their eight kids.
During a TikTok Live on Wednesday, August 27, the Jon & Kate Plus 8 alum, 50, recounted her own personal experience when asked by a fan how to get through a breakup, per People.
“I don’t know if you have kids or don’t have kids, but I just, I made decisions based on how I would want to be treated, honestly,” Kate said. “And I didn’t buy into all the drama and the hate, and the ugly. And I had kids involved, so I wanted it to be as peaceful for them as I possibly could.”
“I did not hire an attorney that wanted to stir up trouble; I just wanted it to be peaceful, and I wanted the best for my kids,” she continued. “A lot of things happened that I could not control that did not turn out well for my kids, but I did my best. We just got through it to the best of our ability.”
However, she added, “It could’ve been a lot calmer and a lot nicer if everybody was willing to play nice.”

Kate — who shares twins Cara and Madelyn, 24, and 21-year-old sextuplets Collin, Hannah, Joel, Aaden, Alexis and Leah with Jon, 48— filed to end her marriage in 2009 amid visible strain on their marriage and reports of infidelity on Jon’s part.
Jon has long denied the claim: ”The biggest misconception is the reason for the divorce is that I cheated on my wife, but I didn’t,” he said on a 2014 episode of the reality show Couples Therapy.
The Gosselin family rose to fame on TLC’s Jon & Kate Plus 8, which debuted in 2007 and aired for five seasons. After Jon and Kate divorced, the program was rebranded as Kate Plus 8 and continued for another six seasons before wrapping in 2017.
