A resurfaced clip from Kate Plus 8 shows a heated argument between Kate Gosselin and her babysitter, Ashley, over a slice of pizza during a tense RV road trip
Ashley quit after the trip, citing mistreatment and emotional exhaustion
Kate’s relationship with bodyguard Steve Neild, once denied, has sparked renewed controversy and family backlash
A tense Kate Plus 8 clip is going viral years after it aired on the hit series.
During season 2 of the TLC reality show, mom Kate Gosselin, 51, took her eight kids, her babysitter Ashley and her friend Jamie Cook on a cross-country road trip, traveling from Deadwood, South Dakota, to the Grand Canyon in two RVs.
During the two-part episode, tensions reached a breaking point over a slice of pizza — and clips of the episode have resurfaced online.
In clips that have since been re-shared on TikTok, Kate can be seen talking to Ashley through the window of the RV, asking for a piece of pizza for her bodyguard, Steve Neild, who was also accompanying the group on the trip. Kate claimed Neild had “reserved” a slice for himself the night before, though Ashley had already doled out much of the pie to Kate’s eight children, twin girls Mady and Cara and sextuplets Alexis, Hannah, Aaden, Collin, Leah, and Joel.
With one slice left, then-10-year-old Mady passed the slice out the window using her bare hands to Neild, leading to another fight between Kate and Ashley.
“You handed it to a kid to hand out without wrapping it in foil?” Kate scolded Ashley. “He didn’t want Mady handing a piece of pizza with her dirty hands out the window.”
The fight devolved further after Ashley suggested to Kate that Neild could eat “macaroni and cheese or salad.” Kate scoffed at the idea and the pair got into a yelling match through the RV window. Following the altercation, Ashley, who had worked with the Gosselin family for five years, abruptly quit.

“This trip just sent me over the edge. I couldn’t take it anymore,” Ashley said in a teary confessional after saying goodbye to Kate’s eight children. “Like I said earlier, when you bust your butt for somebody, and they’re gonna treat you like that — I just don’t feel like dealing with it anymore. It’s not worth it.”
Kate and Cook revisited the trip in a livestream, during which the former reality star said, “we don’t forget the RV trip either, don’t you worry,” with Cook adding they “just don’t talk about it.”
“It was awful from start to finish for everybody,” Kate added, while Cook insisted that “The kids had a good time.”
The clip is raising eyebrows again, especially after recent updates in Kate’s love life. In 2009, Kate was accused of having an affair with Neild by her then-husband, Jon Gosselin. She vehemently denied the allegations and called them “disgusting.”
However, in November 2025, Kate went public with her relationship with Neild after alluding to the year-long relationship months prior. Though she claimed in a TikTok that her new relationship made her kids “so happy,” her estranged son Collin and ex-husband Jon shared their candid thoughts and resurfaced the allegations.
“Guess who really ruined the marriage,” Jon wrote in a since-deleted Instagram post in September 2025 alongside screenshots of articles linking Kate to Neild. He added on his Instagram Stories, “I told you all” and “No one believed me – guess I was right!!!”
Meanwhile, Collin, 22, also released a statement. He wrote on his Instagram Stories in September 2025, “What really upsets me is that my mom had an affair with our bodyguard way back in 2009, and for years would share hotel rooms with him while we went on family vacations, while I was in a connected room! Now everyone thinks her being with him is some cute novel romance.”

Collin recently announced the upcoming release of his memoir, detailing his time on the TLC reality show with his parents.
“Growing up, millions of people watched my life on television. People felt like they knew me. They knew my family. They watched me grow up. But there was so much they never saw,” he wrote in a caption on Instagram announcing the memoir.
“Writing this book forced me to revisit some of the hardest moments of my life, but it also gave me something I’ve been searching for for a long time: my voice,” he continued. ”This isn’t the story people think they know. It’s the story I’ve lived.”
The book announcement follows years of Collin candidly discussing his upbringing in the spotlight. Following Jon and Kate’s 2009 divorce, Kate was awarded custody of the couple’s eight children. In 2016, Kate sent Collin to a behavioral health institution, later citing what she described as “unpredictable and violent behavior.”
Two years later, Jon was awarded custody of Collin, and he left the behavioral health program. Collin graduated from high school in 2023 alongside his sister Hannah.
In an episode of Vice TV’s Dark Side of the 2000s that aired in July 2023, Collin claimed his mother’s alleged abuse was the reason she sent him away. “I was starting to tell people what was going on at home, and she caught wind of that and had to put me somewhere where I wouldn’t be able to get the secrets out,” he said.
Shortly after the Vice TV episode aired, Kate responded to the accusations in a statement.
“I have never wanted to have to do this, but I feel I have been backed into a corner and left with no choice. Although it saddens me to do so, I need to speak out now,” she said, in part, at the time. “My son Collin, whom I love with all my heart, has received multiple psychiatric diagnoses over the years. For the safety of myself, his brothers and sisters, and for his own well-being, he was placed in a facility following years of outpatient treatment which proved insufficient for his needs.”
“Collin’s distorted perception of reality is one of the many issues that he has always struggled with. As many people who have family members grappling with mental health issues can attest, it is rarely and sadly surprising when complete fabrications occur, and this is just another heartbreaking facet of this fight,” she continued. “Unfortunately, I believe Collin remains a very troubled young man who continues to need a lot of help. His brothers and sisters and I have not been directly involved in his life due to his history of unpredictable behavior and violent tendencies towards us.”
In 2024, Collin brought forth allegations against his mother, claiming that she abused him beginning when he was 8 or 9 years old. He alleged that he was confined and “isolated” from his other siblings by Kate and that he was “a scapegoat” for his mother’s problems and often took “the brute end of things.”
Kate’s attorney said at the time that he did not believe that Kate had done anything to “intentionally harm” Collin, and that “she did what she did to protect herself and her family” from what the attorney called “troubled behavior.”
In the Shadow of Eight will be released on Oct. 13, 2026.
