Kate Mansi‘s final scenes as Kristina Corinthos-Davis aired last Friday on General Hospital. Ahead of her exit, the Daytime Emmy-winning actress shared many special goodbye moments with her co-stars. However, she deliberately kept the news from one of her frequent scene partners until they shot their last moments together. But who, and why?
Mansi told TV Insider that she chose not to inform Maurice Benard (AKA Kristina’s father, mobster Sonny Corinthos) before her final episode. Why? Because of their real-life close bond. And once Benard realized his on-screen daughter was leaving for real, that gave them true emotions to play out on screen.
“He was crying, and he asked me in rehearsal, ‘Is this it, kid? Are you really leaving?’ And I said, ‘Yes.’ He gave me a big hug, and we both cried. During taping, it was a very meaningful, authentic reaction we both had saying goodbye to each other, which is what I really wanted, because the father-daughter relationship for Kristina and Sonny, and for Maurice and me, has been so special and unique. But it was really hard.”
