Kate Middleton runs into ex-boyfriend at royal wedding

Kate Middleton ran into a former flame at Peter Phillips‘ wedding.

The Princess of Wales and her ex-boyfriend Rupert Finch were both in attendance when Princess Anne‘s son married Harriet Sperling in the Cotswolds on June 6.

When did Kate and Finch date?

According to Tatler, Kate and the attorney reportedly dated for less than a year in 2001 while studying at the University of St Andrews.

The source claimed Finch was the future queen of England’s “casual boyfriend” and “considered the ultimate catch by Kate’s friends.”

Shortly after ending her romance with the lawyer, Kate began dating Prince William.

Have Kate and Finch remained on good terms?

The exes seem to have a friendly relationship, as Finch attended the mother of three’s 2011 wedding to the Prince of Wales.

In 2013, Finch tied the knot with the daughter of the 4th Marquess of Reading, Lady Natasha Rufus Isaacs.

Although Kate was not present for the ceremony, Princess Eugenie represented the royal family.

In a 2020 interview with HELLO!, Natasha raved about her husband’s former girlfriend.

“It’s always lovely to see the Duchess in Beulah,” she said of Kate, who was the Duchess of Cambridge at the time.

“She’s a wonderful ambassador for British brands, and that is more important than ever at the moment,” Natasha noted.

Kate’s strong marriage to William

Despite seeing Finch, Kate recently celebrated her 15th wedding anniversary with William.

“They’re at the start of a new chapter,” a source told The Telegraph, referring to Kate’s recovery from cancer.

“If continuity and stability is what the monarchy is supposed to give you, you only need to look at this marriage,” the insider said.

“Whatever has happened in his life, in her life, the continuity and stability of their relationship has seen them through it. They are exactly the same as they have always been. They’re unshakable, the two of them,” the source emphasized.

Staying grounded

No matter what life throws at the pair, Kate and William are dedicated to keeping things normal for their three children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis.

“They don’t have a great desire to stay in five or six-star hotels, and they don’t live a very grand life,” expert Robert Hardman told Fox News Digital.

“Their idea of fun is just going for a picnic in the woods of Norfolk or spending time at home in the garden,” he said.

“It’s interesting that they like nothing more than being together in relatively un-grand situations,” Hardman said. “I think with William and Kate, it really is, unquestionably, a genuine love story.”
