Stars like Katy Perry, Zara Larsson and Lizzo shared mixed reactions online, with Perry joking she was glad he had YouTube premium
In addition to the YouTube portion, Bieber played snippets of old songs like “Baby” and “Never Say Never”
Justin Bieber went down an internet rabbit hole during his headlining set at Coachella — so celebrities and fans alike are sharing their thoughts on social media.
At one point during his highly anticipated performance at the music festival on Saturday, April 11, Bieber kept things casual and pulled up throwback singing videos and viral memes on a laptop. Afterward, Katy Perry and Zara Larsson were among the stars who commented on the moment.
Perry, 41, shared a dump from her experience at the festival on Instagram. In the third slide, she shared a video that showed Bieber, 32, searching videos on his laptop on stage.
“Thank God he has premium,” Perry joked in the video. “I don’t wanna see no ads.”
Meanwhile, Larsson, 28, shared a video of herself watching the livestream on TikTok and she wrote over the post: “It’s giving let’s smoke and watch YouTube.”
She captioned the post, “He’s in my dream blunt rotation.”
During the headlining performance, in addition to playing songs from his latest studio albums Swag and Swag II, Bieber spent roughly half an hour searching viral clips such as “Deez Nuts” and “Double Rainbow.”
“Justin Bieber fryin me son got no dancers or nothing just blue lights with fog , YouTube and a MacBook,” one fan wrote on X.
Another added during the performance, “Justin it’s time to put the YouTube away and actually perform I’m getting annoyed #BIEBERCHELLA.”
In addition to the memes, Bieber searched old videos of himself and sang along to his songs like “Baby,” “Never Say Never” and “That Should Be Me.” He also played the video that launched his career, which was a 2008 cover of Chris Brown‘s “With You.”
In the comments section of Larsson’s post, fans shared their opinions on the moment. While some said they agreed with her take, others called her out for being too harsh.
“This is very tone deaf,” a fan wrote in the comments. “Him doing this showed how he’s healing himself. His fans didn’t mind it at all because it came off so genuinely and honestly saying let’s just chill and watch YouTube bc that’s where I started.”
Then, the Midnight Sun singer seemingly responded to commenters on her Instagram Stories. “‘You always got something to say.’ Correct!!!! You’re new to this, I’m true to this!!” she wrote.
Larsson continued, “Everyone who’s been with me for a minute knows I’m a yapper first. I was a blogger and I’ve had 3 podcasts looooool I can’t shut up, it’s just not in me.”
The YouTube portion of the show aside, Bieber’s set was also highly celebrated online. Lizzo posted a photo of Bieber watching his “With You” cover on stage and shared an emotional sentiment in the caption section on her Instagram post.
“I watched a popstar who grew up in front of the world fully transcend into his artistry last night. I watched someone who gave us his all, his whole life.. finally nourish hisself,” Lizzo, 37, wrote.
She continued, “I have no pictures or videos because I was fully present in the moment. Justin invited us and whoever chose to come with him was blessed with a beautiful ride. When you use your gift for God, it will make people uncomfortable. But that’s OK because the ones who stick beside you will feel the love. Thank you @lilbieber 💜”
